TSMC introduces a new series of low bias current and high efficiency Zener diodes

     Taiwan Semiconductor has introduced a new line of Zener diodes that offer a range of regulated voltages from 1.8VDC to 1 39VDC. These diodes have an extremely low bias current (IZT) of 50µA and a maximum power dissipation (PD) of 500mW.

     These devices are well-suited for situations where there is a need for extremely low bias current (to prolong battery life), a requirement (for energy harvesting), or a preference (in lighting and IIoT) – all while maintaining uncompromised Zener control.

     All 39 Zener diodes in the series, with part numbers ranging from MMSZ4668 to MMSZ41716, are packaged in a low-profile, SOD-123 surface-mount package that is often used in the industry. Due to their low IZT, these devices can be easily included into current designs without requiring any alterations to the PCB. They are also suitable for use in new designs.

     Taiwan Semiconductor (TSC) states that the current developments in Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial IoT (IIoT), where there is a lack of sufficient bias current, are necessitating updates or completely new designs to support these applications. According to TSC, the new series of Zener diodes has an extremely low 50µA IZT, making it an excellent choice for meeting these demanding specifications.
