RECOM Power's breakout board connected the STMicroelectronics STEVAL-STLCS01V1 sensor module to RECOM's R-78S evaluation board. This technology enables the sensor to get a steady 3.3V voltage from the AA battery, with the voltage down to 0.65V. This allows engineers to take advantage of high-capacity single-cell AA batteries and calculate the service life of applications prior to production.

This allows engineers to take advantage of high-capacity single-cell AA batteries and calculate the service life of applications prior to production.

 

When powered through a coin battery, the input voltage can drop below 2 volts with only a few hours of use. This will cause the Bluetooth low energy transmission unit to stop working properly, making the energy of the coin battery wasted. This can be avoided by incorporating features of the R-78S, as shown by the R-78S Evaluation Committee, that boost the voltage of a single-cell AA battery from 1.5V to a stable 3.3V.

 

Test points that measure voltage and current effortlessly calculate the typical battery life of the sensor in both working and standby mode. Combining AA batteries with r-78 batteries guarantees a long service life while reducing maintenance costs. Another option is to use an external input voltage from another low voltage source, such as an energy harvesting device, which is typical for remote applications.
