Qualcomm introduces next-generation GPU architecture and image signal processors
Qualcomm announced that its subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI), has introduced new versions of its Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and Image Signal Processing (ISP) units for its next-generation vision processing technology, providing significant advancements in performance, power efficiency and user experience for SnapdragonQUALCOMM processors.
The new QUALCOMM Adreno 5XX GPU architecture offers faster speed and efficiency than the previous generation and supports amazing HD mobile graphics cards while introducing very low power consumption for general-purpose computing collaborative processing. The first two Gpus available in the new architecture, Adreno 530 and Adreno 510, will be available for internal integration in the upcoming Snapdragon 820's Snapdragon processor 618/620. In addition, the Snapdragon 820 will also debut the all-new 14-bit Qualcomm Spectrum image signal Processing (ISP) unit, designed to support superior SLR quality photography and enhanced computer vision. The Snapdragon-based device 820 is expected to be available in 1H 2016 for Qualcomm's Snapdragon Qualcomm Adreno and Qualcomm Spectrum QTI products.
"We've significantly increased Snapdragon's visual processing power to support next-generation user experiences with photo-realistic graphics related to computational photography, computer vision, virtual reality and mobile devices, while also maximizing battery life," said Tim Leland, vice President of Snapdragon. "Qualcomm Spectrum ISP, coupled with our Adreno 5XX class GPU, brings a whole new level of imaging to smartphones, and has been designed to allow Snapdragon devices to capture ultra-sharp, realistic photos and video regardless of motion and lighting conditions and display with the color accuracy that is naturally expected. In addition, as emerging growth areas such as automotive demand more immersive visual experiences, the Snapdragon 820 will enable the next generation of infotainment systems, computer vision and advanced processing dashboards. "
