Omron Electronics releases relays that can achieve reduced power consumption and heat
Omron Electronic Components Europe has announced the G5Q-HR, the latest addition to the G5Q family of 10A PCB power relays. The new relay can achieve reduced power consumption and heat, and is 45% smaller than the equivalent 16A relay. This helps narrow device designs while opening up new PCB configurations for applications that require high inrush current, such as lighting controllers, smart plugs, home appliances, and power supplies.
The G5Q portfolio was first introduced in 2001 and now offers a wide range of variants covering many different applications, from home appliances to industrial motor loads. In response to customer demand for compact design and improved energy performance for 10A applications, the company expanded its high-surge flow offering with a single stable and latching variant of the G5Q-HR.
As the only device in the portfolio to meet the TV-8 Class 10A standard, the G5Q-HR complements existing high-surge products while opening up new possibilities for more powerful and compact end-product applications. Measuring 20.3mm(L)x 10.3mm(W)x 15.8mm(H), it is the company's smallest TV-8 product.
The G5Q-HR is compatible with a wide range of capacitive loads, as well as ramp loads up to AC 120V and impact 117A. According to its TV-8 certification, the equipment has been rigorously tested to last at least 25,000 cycles, ensuring maximum life and reliability. It also complies with UL electronic ballast ratings 3A 277VAC and 5A 277VAC for more than 6000 cycles and IEC60669-1 3A 250VAC for more than 5000 cycles. The device achieves high surge current resistance and supports multiple surge loads. Meet high input load standards above 100A, such as lighting, power supply, etc.
The closed-type (G5Q-U/K-HR) variant achieves extremely low power consumption by maintaining the contact "on" state with only one pulse current. This reduces coil power consumption by about 9.9% compared to a standard single-sided stabilized relay. In addition to reducing the power consumption of relays, it can also help reduce the heat generated, thereby increasing the efficiency and lifetime of the associated components and systems.
