Extended series of load switch ics with ideal diode function

     Torex Semiconductor Inc. has released a new load switch IC product, the XC8112/XC8113 family, that offers ideal diode functionality. The compact, low-height USP-8B06 (2mm x 2mm x h0.33mm) package is suitable for applications with limited area and height.

     The series replicates the characteristics of the ideal diode and is equipped with enable (EN), overcurrent protection, inrush current protection and thermal shutdown. These ics obtain an ultra-low forward voltage (VF) of only 20mV through their ideal diode functionality, which is about 1/20 of the forward voltage typically found in Schottky barrier diodes for reverse current protection, greatly extending battery life. In addition, despite VF as low as 20mV, the reverse current from VOUT to VIN remains at 0μA, truly reflecting the characteristics of an ideal diode. These characteristics allow it to directly implement the output or circuit and effectively reduce power consumption in backup battery applications.

     The series uses constant current limiting and reverse current limiting to manage overcurrent. The folding method limits the short circuit current to 50mA, making it safe to operate even under short circuit conditions. Hot shutdown function to prevent IC overheating damage. In addition, the series is IEC62368-1:2012 current limiter certified, which improves equipment safety and simplifies design.

     The XC8112 series is equipped with a 2ch 500mA load switch for standby or connected and multichannel applications in small, power-saving uses. The XC8113 family offers a 2ch 1A load switch that is ideal for small, high-current applications and further reduces the voltage drop (low on-resistance) with a parallel connection (Figure 2).
