Eggtronic has released a new evaluation board that enables engineers to rapidly develop and prototype ultra-efficient, low-component wireless power transmission designs for ultra-low power applications. WaveEgg Low Power (LP) EVB is based on the company's proprietary high frequency WaveEgg architecture that optimizes the performance and efficiency of high-performance power converters and wireless power transmission systems, reducing component count and form factor.

     Eggtronic has released a new evaluation board that enables engineers to rapidly develop and prototype ultra-efficient, low-component wireless power transmission designs for ultra-low power applications. WaveEgg Low Power (LP) EVB is based on the company's proprietary high frequency WaveEgg architecture that optimizes the performance and efficiency of high-performance power converters and wireless power transmission systems, reducing component count and form factor. Ideal for wireless charging and powering small smart devices and iot products, WaveEgg offers 0.5W to 30W of power and can operate at extremely high frequencies (from a few MHz to tens of MHz, including ISM 6.78-13.56-27.12 MHz).

     Compared to traditional systems, the board provides end-to-end efficiency while reducing the overall BoM. With WaveEgg LP EVB, engineers will be able to create systems with low and low load to full load efficiency using fewer components than standard Class D, e, F, Phi and other resonant wireless power transmission solutions, including technologies based on qi and airfuel.

     "Wireless power transmission technologies based on traditional designs have limitations in terms of size, bill of materials and low load efficiency, which limits their application in iot and small smart devices," said Igor Spinella, founder and CEO of Eggtronic. "WaveEgg solves the historical challenges of efficiency and component count with power up to 30w, and the WaveEgg 6W LP evaluation board provides engineers with a platform to quickly and easily implement practical and commercially viable low-power wireless designs."

     The board is based on Eggtronic's EPIC (Eggtronic Power Integrated Controller) ic. These ics integrate a 32-bit RISC-V core and high-performance digital and analog peripherals, and offer flexible internals that support control standards and proprietary power conversion architectures. Over the entire load range, ZVS and quasi-ZCS on the transmission side and ZVS+ZCS on the receiving side are implemented through proprietary designs, resulting in high efficiency.

     With an output power of 6W and a switching frequency of 2MHz, WaveEgg achieved 85% efficiency. Fewer components are required to be compared to traditional designs, further increasing efficiency by reducing losses caused by non-ideal component behavior. Since the receiver can also charge the battery with a step-down converter that implements the CC/CV mode algorithm, eliminating the need for a battery charger controller, component counts in battery charging applications can be further reduced.
