EV DC-DC converters benefit from the new high-voltage MLCC
Samsung Electric has introduced the cl32b104khu6pn# high-voltage MLCC for electric vehicle applications such as DC-DC converters. The new X7R MLCC has a capacity of 100nF and a maximum rated voltage of 630V and is currently in mass production.
MLCCS are becoming more common in modern vehicles as Oems respond to consumer demands such as electrification and higher functionality. Miniaturization, high voltage, stability and high capacitance are further developing trends, which have led to an increasing number of MLCCS installed on a single vehicle.
To meet the demand for optimal capacitor solutions in line with emerging trends, the company set out to develop high-performance CLS. The X7R(±15% capacitance variation, -55 ° C to 125 ° C) assembly features a compact 1210 (3.2mm x 2.5mm) form factor that provides a high voltage rating of 630VDC. In addition, by extending the capacitors of the 1210,X7R and 630V series to 100nF, this exciting new product meets the miniaturization and high efficiency characteristics required for electric vehicle applications such as DC-DC converters and OBCs.
While propulsion systems, air conditioning, and start motors require higher voltages, in-vehicle infotainment systems, for example, require DC-DC converters to convert high voltages to 12VDC. This type of DC-DC converter requires MLCCS for functions such as EMI filtering, especially MLCCS that can provide high capacitance at high voltage. Samples are available upon request.
