Complete brake pedal position sensor with wake-up function

     Melexis MLX90424 is a cost-effective solution for simplifying automotive brake pedal sensing. It contains two position sensing ics and a wake switch, all isolated in a package for functional safety purposes. The solution can be powered directly from 12V and can handle accurate linear displacement measurements up to 30mm.

     In safety-critical and space-constrained applications such as automotive braking systems, reaching the state of the art requires custom sensors. The device provides redundancy through its bilinear position sensing, while the integrated magnetic switch allows for an energy-efficient mode. In contrast to existing brake pedal modules, which include separate position sensors and switches, the fully integrated device ensures that the position sensing and switching elements are placed together in the ideal position. This helps reduce design and packaging considerations, simplifying assembly and bill of Materials (BOM) component counting. In addition, the device offers flexibility, allowing it to be powered directly from a 12V battery without the need for a regulator.

     The device measures linear displacement up to 30mm and uses Melexis Triaxis Hall technology to provide robustness to stray fields. The combined sensor is AEC-Q100 compliant, position sensing is ASIL D system integrated, and switching is ISO 26262 compliant up to ASIL B. It provides reliable and highly integrated operation for safety-critical braking operations and is resistant to magnetic field stray up to 5mT (4kA/m), in compliance with ISO 11452-8.
